Faithful Parenting

We always made it clear that their friends were welcome in our home. We wanted them to know they could trust their precious, and potentially fragile, friendships with us. I often wonder if parent realize what it means when their child asks to have a friend over? Do they realize the trust that is being extended in that moment? It is a humble honor that your child feels you are safe and trustworthy enough to invite a friend—an outsider—into your home.

I see you there, standing in the pew. I can feel the weariness in your tired arms as you are poised there with them full. Quietly you are rocking and quieting, longing for sleep to come, so for a moment you might soak in the worship. While you try to gain focus there are small voices asking, arms reaching...needing and wanting more from you, and you feel tired.  You feel there is little left to give, but you remain.

I assure you that parenting your children, loving them well and trying to “get it right” will without fail cause you to rely on God and lean on Him. This is not weakness, this is faith. God wants us to need Him, to seek Him, to trust Him and to come to Him often when raising our kids. I do not believe that He expects us to know everything or get it all right - instead He wants us to come to Him and pray for our children in petition for them at the foot of the cross.
